HAIR STYLE GUIDES · GUIDE TO BLOW DRYING

Lay down those straightening irons - big hair is back!

  • Start by washing your hair with a volumising range.
  • Comb with a wide-toothed comb to remove any tangles. Partially blow-dry your hair to get rid of excess moisture.
  • Spray a volumising tonic on your hair, or a handful of mousse spread from tips to ends for extra oomph.
  • Pin hair up and take out small sections at a time to blow-dry. Hold the dryer in one hand and a styling brush in the other.
  • Place the brush underneath the first section of hair and position it at the roots. Keep the tension on the hair (without tugging too hard) and move the brush down towards the ends, while directing the air flow down the hair, following the movement of the brush.
  • Blow-dry using a large, round brush with a metal core. Wind hair completely up the brush, focusing on creating lift at the roots. Gently blast hair with a hair-dryer until dry.
  • Curl the brush under at the ends to achieve a slight bend. Continue until the back sections are completely dry and then repeat on the top sections of hair.
  • Finish with a light, flexible hairspray.
  • Remember, practice makes perfect!

Best Blow-Drying Tips

If you have a Cowlick - With a round or vent brush, dry your fringe hair forwards to weigh it down, or choose a hair cut that incorporates the cowlick into the style.

If you have a Double Crown - Drying the hair flat to the head will only make your double crown stand out more. Instead, firstly dry the hair in the opposite direction to what you want, and then dry it back the other way. This will make the hair stand up, and will cover up the crowns.

Save time by drying most of the moisture out of your hair by shaking it dry with your hand and hair-dryer.

Use clips to pin the top layers of your hair out of the way and begin with the underneath sections.

Fully dry each section of hair before moving to the next to prevent it reverting back to its natural state.

For a smooth finish, aim the airflow from your hairdryer down along the hair, in the direction of the ends. This smoothes the hair cuticles and makes the hair shine.

A large paddle brush is a great finishing brush for that smooth silky look.
